Well I felt like writing some more, so it turns out that this has become my top 10 favorite games of all time. #2 is very dear to me. The first time I played Shadow of the Colossus, I instantly fell in love with it. The game is rather simple in theory. You are some kid who is in love with a dead girl. The only way to save her soul is by slaying… I think like 10 giant monsters. Technically, those 10 bosses are the only enemies in the game. The catch is that most of them fill the screen with their sheer size. It’s absolutely incredible how intricate and ancient these giants seem, almost as if they had been resting for thousands of years until you arrived and decided to piss them off.
Shadow of the Colossus is very good graphic wise, especially for a Playstation 2 game. Controls are easy and the game is rather easy to get used to. The bosses themselves are like mini games in of themselves. In order to reach their only weak spots, you usually spend a half an hour climbing all over them or using your horse (who is my favorite character in the game by the way) to navigate the terrain.
I believe Shadow is amazing because it is so simple. I believe it does what other games cant. It peels away all the other stuff and gives you simple tasks to accomplish to reach a final goal. Most importantly, it does this flawlessly and provides much satisfaction even after several playthroughs.
